Studio Projects

  • The Crossing Place, Flatford, Suffolk

The work responds to an iconic landscape crossing place between the Suffolk and Essex borders.

By using creative processes and working from drawings, the aim here is to develop a balance between a pictorial image and surface area. Mark making, colour, volume and tone, layered processes of screen print with paint create elements that work, interacting on the same plane.

The Stour valley, which John Constable cited as ‘the place that made me a painter’. A valley full of farms, flocks of sheep, meadows and woodland.

Arriving here through Suffolks industrial wheatlands, the Stour Valley remains remarkably unchanged since Constable’s time .

  • Return To The Garden, and Growing Colour.

Two projects which were collaborations between two gardens. Suffolk, England and Mallorca, Spain.

Artist Petrina Wright in Calvia, Mallorca and Annabel Ridley in Nedging, Suffolk. Both artists worked together, sharing time in both gardens. Drawing visits to Beth Chatto’s Dry Garden, Essex and Robert Graves’ garden in Deià, Mallorca.

Artwork responded to changing seasons, mood of place, cycle of nature and varied light.

The collaboration resulted in two exhibitions in St. Edmunds’ Gallery, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk

The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2015 exhibited Petrina Wright’s Robert Graves’ Garden linoprint.
